Summer Slim Down

Some ideas on budget-friendly summer fun

Now that summer has arrived, chances are you’re considering all the entertainment options laid out before you. While spending a week on a remote island might be ideal, it’s not exactly budget-friendly. Here are some more affordable summer-fun options.

Park Party

Many local parks host free or affordable activities during the warmer months. These events are also typically kid-friendly. Search your park’s site, your local newspaper or tourism bureau (if you have one) for fun, free parties in the park near you.

Checkout the Library

Libraries are another great source of free fun. Obviously the books are the main draw, but libraries also often host crafting and reading events for kids. You local library site will tell you all you need to know.

Have a Slumber Party

Are your kids itching to see their friends? Have them invite a friend for a sleep over. Not only will they entertain themselves, that entertainment will come cheaply. Let them watch movies and eat some popcorn and they’ll likely be perfectly happy.

Tour a Factory

Kids usually love big things, like construction equipment, airplanes and more. So why not take a tour of a factory to get them an up-close-and-personal look? As USNews reports, check the site FactoryTour.com for info on factory tours — which are often free — near you.
