credit cards and divorce
my husband and I are getting a divorce - I am getting phone calls at the house from his credit cards. One of them told me I am responsible for his payments if he doesn't make them since we live in Tennessee. Is this true? What can I do to protect myself from getting stuck with more bills than I can pay??

CC companies are right. If your name is on the account, you'll be responsible for the debt even if you agree that he assumes the liability as part of the divorce settlement.
Your best course of action is to clean up your finances in advance by taking the other part off any debt as you divide them up BEFORE you file for divorce. I'm sure that your attorney can help. Just remember to do if BEFORE you file for divorce, as it becomes harder to do afterward.Bhawna is a Debt Expert and is inspired by so many determined to becoming debt-free.

What's so bad is I don't even know what cards these are! I don't know if he used my name on them or not! Another question to add to the list for my lawyer. Thanks for your input.

Good luck with this. I know it's not what you what to have to deal with when you're going through a tough time. Best of luck.Scott started SavvyMoney because he passionately believes that life is better without debt. Since everyone should have a superhero name, Scott decided that ThriftyMan pretty well described his mission to save the world. Scott used to market credit cards, but now dedicates himself to people out of debt.
